Presidential Advisory Council on HIV/AIDS Prevention Subcommittee

Treatment and Care Subcommittee Resolution #1:

WHEREAS the care and treatment of persons living with HIV/AIDS in the United States is a high priority for this Administration and an important part of an effective national public health strategy, and

WHEREAS the Ryan White Comprehensive AIDS Resources Emergency (CARE) Act, provides primary care, treatment and essential support services to approximately 571,000 underserved people living with HIV/AIDS, and

WHEREAS the Ryan White CARE Act was scheduled to be reauthorized in 2005, but reauthorization has been delayed, and

WHEREAS the President of the United States has shown exceptional leadership and commitment to reauthorization and modernization of the Ryan White CARE Act, including significant mentions in the last two State of the Union addresses, and

WHEREAS the Senate Health Education Labor and Pensions committee, a cornerstone of the bicameral, bipartisan, administration process, “marked up” the bill and filed it as S. 2823 – “The Ryan White HIV/AIDS Treatment Modernization Act of 2006” in May 2006, which reflects many of the changes recommended by Presidential Advisory Council on HIV/AIDS (PACHA), then

BE IT RESOLVED THAT the Presidential Advisory Council on HIV/AIDS fully supports the reauthorization and modernization of the Ryan White CARE Act during the second session of the109th Congress.
